The Kenosha County Pumpkin Farm Half Your Neighbors Still Recommend Closed in 2023

The Kenosha County Pumpkin Farm Half Your Neighbors Still Recommend Closed in 2023

Search "pumpkin patch Trevor WI" today and Happ's still shows up. The name sits near the top of at least two long-running Wisconsin harvest directories, complete with a note about train rides, a haunted house, and haunted buses that used to run out of the Wilmot Road property. Read one line further and you find the correction: "Happ's pumpkin farm has been sold." It closed for good in 2023, but the internet's memory of it is stickier than the business itself turned out to be.

That gap between what the listings say and what's actually running is the real story of fall in Kenosha County's unincorporated towns this year. The county's harvest season didn't shrink when Happ's shut down. It reorganized around three working farms that each do one thing well, plus a county park that has nothing to do with pumpkins at all and gives dog walkers and disc golfers a better reason to be outside than anything with a corn maze attached.

What's Actually Running This Season

Three farms are carrying the county's fall weekends right now, and they're not interchangeable. Jerry Smith's Produce & Country Store, on 18th Street off Highway L, has been family-run since 1975 and leans into scale: over 40 pumpkin varieties, a corn maze, camel rides, and roughly 70 hand-painted pumpkin character displays that regulars come back for year after year. Its own site lists the fall run from September 12 through November 1.

Thompson Farm in Bristol built its reputation on pick-your-own strawberries from mid-June through early July, then pivots the same fields to sunflowers, raspberries, and pumpkins as the season turns. The farm recently moved to a new location, so if your mental map still points to the old spot, it's worth checking the current address before you load up the kids.

Harvest Time Orchards in Twin Lakes skips the maze-and-inflatable model entirely and sticks to apples, cherries, and pumpkins, with cider pressed on site. It's the closest thing the county has to an old-fashioned orchard visit instead of a fall festival.

Farm Town Known For 2026 Fall Window
Jerry Smith's Produce & Country Store Kenosha (Hwy L) Corn maze, camel rides, hand-painted pumpkin displays Sept. 12 – Nov. 1
Thompson Farm Bristol Pick-your-own pumpkins, sunflowers, new farm location Late summer into fall
Harvest Time Orchards Twin Lakes Apples, cherries, on-site cider mill Fall harvest season

None of these three is trying to be Happ's. That's worth sitting with for a second. Happ's built its draw around a haunted-attraction model, the kind of place where the appeal was the theatrics as much as the produce. What replaced it isn't one bigger haunted farm. It's three smaller operations that specialize instead of competing head to head, which means the choice for a Saturday in Kenosha County now depends on what you actually want rather than which farm has the loudest marketing.

The Fall Option That Isn't a Farm

Silver Lake Park doesn't show up in any pumpkin directory, and that's exactly why it belongs in the same conversation. Once the swimming beach traffic thins out, the park's Icehouse Trail and its ten miles of mountain bike trails are still fully open, running through terrain that accommodates everything from a first-time rider to someone looking for a real workout. The Silver Fox Disc Golf Course, a par-56, 18-hole layout through wooded fairways, keeps going well past the point where most seasonal attractions pack it in for the year.

This matters because the county's fall calendar isn't actually built around one type of outing. A resident who wants a corn maze and a resident who wants a quiet disc golf round before the first frost are both being served by the same nine or ten square miles of unincorporated Kenosha County, just by completely different infrastructure. The farms compete for the same audience on the same few weekends in October. The park doesn't compete with anything. It's just there, working, whether or not anyone's thinking about pumpkins.

Why the Old Map Still Matters

The Happ's listings aren't wrong because someone forgot to update a webpage. They're wrong because that's how directory sites work: they index once and rarely revisit, which means a business that closed three years ago can still outrank the businesses that replaced it. For a resident who moved to Twin Lakes or Salem Lakes more recently, or who simply hasn't been out to Trevor in a while, that outdated result is often the first thing that comes up.

The practical fix is small. If you're planning a fall Saturday around a pumpkin patch, check whether the place you're picturing is one of the three still operating this season, not the one that used to anchor the county's Halloween season a few years back. If you're planning around something that isn't produce at all, Silver Lake Park's trail and disc golf course are open on a schedule that has nothing to do with harvest timing, which makes it the more dependable fallback when the farms get crowded or the weather doesn't cooperate.

Kenosha County's fall didn't get smaller when one long-running farm closed. It got more specific, split across three places that each do a narrower version of what Happ's used to do all at once, plus a park that was never part of that competition to begin with. Worth knowing before you circle a date on the calendar for a place that isn't there anymore.

Kenosha County keeps changing in small ways like this, and the Renee O'Brien Group pays attention to the details because they're the same details that make a neighborhood worth staying in. If you're weighing a move into this corner of the county, we're just as happy to talk pumpkin farms as we are to talk porches.
